DARKE COUNTY - Most schools were closed altogether, but a couple were just delayed.
But all of the varsity sports events involving varsity sport teams from the eight area schools, save Versailles, are scheduled to be staged, as planned, on this bitter cold February Monday.
Shortly before 2 p.m., Versailles athletic director Randy Swisher sent an e-mail stating that the Minster at Versailles varsity boys basketball play for Monday, plus the "unofficial" Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) swim meet would not be staged Monday night. Both events had been postponed over the past weekend, then reset for Monday.
All of the other four varsity prep basketball games set for Monday were set to take place, as confirmed by school officials early Monday afternoon.
Those girls basketball games include Dixie at Franklin Monroe (5:30 p.m. junior varsity start), Sidney at Greenville on Senior Night for Lady Wave girls basketball (6 p.m. junior varsity start), and Bradford at Lima Perry (6 p.m. varsity-only start).
The area's lone boys basketball play on Monday is Mississinawa Valley at Ansonia in the Cross County Conference (CCC), with a scheduled 6 p.m. junior varsity tipoff.
Check back at advocate360.org late tonight for scores from Monday's hoop play, and any other updates as to the effect the stormy weather, past or future, is having on prep sports in the area.
