Fitzgerald, 104, named oldest fairgoer

DARKE COUNTY - The 158 Great Darke County Fair is currently underway, and fairgoers may not realize that the grounds have not always closed at midnight. Elaine Fitzgerald of Greenville said she remembers when the fairgrounds closed at 6 p.m. so farmers could go home to continue working.Fitzgerald, 104, has been recognized as this year’s oldest fair goer.“[I feel] shocked,” Fitzgerald said while smiling. “I was sure there was someone here who was 105.”She enjoys roaming around the fairgrounds, eating fudge and seeing the coliseum. She was born on July 2, 1910, and said she has been attending the fair for most of her life.
