Synthetic biology

Curiosity is whetted by the self-contradictory phrase “synthetic biology” meaning counterfeit life. Through DNA expertise, the mandarins of high-technology strive to modify micro—organisms for unneeded artificial flavorings and fragrances.

Surely, such expensive gene-changing finesse should properly focus on things more important than synthetic yeast. Yet we shouldn’t be surprised to find such merchandise legally labeled “natural on supermarket shelves.
