Patriots earn No. 1 seed in boys tournament

DARKE COUNTY — Tri-Village earned a No. 1 seed in the Ohio High School Athletic Association boys basketball tournament, which is the highest seed earned by a Darke County team.

The Tri-Village boys earned the No. 1 seed in the Division IV Troy sectional. The Patriots will open tournament play against 12th seed Newton at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Troy.

Franklin Monroe also is in the Division IV Troy sectional with Tri-Village and earned the No. 2 seed. The Jets will open tournament play against 10th-seeded Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 24.

Ansonia, Bradford and Mississinawa Valley also are in Division IV and will play out of the Piqua sectional.

Mississinawa Valley earned the seventh seed in the Piqua sectional and begins tournament play at 7 p.m. Saturday against eighth-seeded Riverside.

Bradford is the No. 13 seed in the sectional and plays No. 4 seed Fort Loramie in the opening round at 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Ansonia is the No. 14 seed in the Piqua sectional and will play No. 1 seed Russia at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the first round of the tournament.

Versailles earned the third seed in the Division III Bellbrook sectional. The Tigers begin tournament action against 15th-seeded Tri-County North at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 25.

Arcanum is in the Bellbrook sectional along with Versailles and earned the No. 14 seed. The Trojans have a first-round bye and will play the winner of No. 8 seed Anna vs. No. 12 seed Madison at 6 p.m. Feb. 25.

The Greenville boys earned the 10th seed in the Division I Butler sectional. The Green Wave begin tournament play at 7 p.m. Friday in Vandalia against No. 7 seed Tecumseh.
