TROY — A rough third quarter was too much for Franklin Monroe to overcome on Saturday as the Jets lost 50-41 to Troy Christian in a sectional tournament game.

Franklin Monroe trailed by just one point, 18-17, at halftime but was outscored 15-4 in the third quarter as Troy Christian pulled away to win the sectional championship.

The first two quarters were back and forth with Troy Christian getting on the scoreboard first with a pair of baskets by Grant Zawadzki for a 4-0 Eagle lead.

Franklin Monroe responded with Devin Fourman, Marcus Horner and Travis Feitshans leading the Jets on a 7-0 run to take a 7-4 lead.

Logan George and Aaron Horn then scored for Troy Christian to take back the lead at 8-7, but Franklin Monroe led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter as Feitshans sank a 3-pointer to end the scoring in the period.

After a Zach Hyre basket for FM opened the second period scoring, Troy Christian again took the lead with a 3-pointer by Holden Varvel and a basket by Zawadzki.

Trailing 13-12, Franklin Monroe again regained the lead as Fourman and Hyre scored to put the Jets up 17-13.

But Troy Christian scored the final five points of the half with points from Isaiah Fairley and George for an 18-17 halftime lead.

The third quarter was a disaster for Franklin Monroe as the Eagles outscored the Jets by 11 points to take a 12-point lead.

Zawadzki found success by driving to the basket and cutting through FM defenders for 11 points in the third quarter. Troy Christian also got a basket each from Fairley and George.

Franklin Monroe, meanwhile, was limited to three points from Trey Mong and one from Martin Maksvytis in the third quarter.

Troy Christian led by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter, and Franklin Monroe never cut the deficit to less than eight as the Eagles finished off the 50-41 victory to end the Jets’ season.

Feitshans led Franklin Monroe with 16 points in the sectional tournament loss. Also for the Jets, Fourman scored seven points, Maksvytis scored seven, Hyre scored six, Mong scored three, and Horner scored two.

Zawadzki led Troy Christian with a game-high 22 points including 14 in the second half. Also for the Eagles, Varvel scored 10 points, Fairley scored six, George scored five, Spencer Thomas scored three, Luke Dillahunt scored two, and Horn scored two.

The loss ended the high school basketball careers of Franklin Monroe’s five seniors — Henry Bourne, Feitshans, Fourman, Mong and Kayle Oswalt.
