Piqua man facing charges

PIQUA - A man reported to be sleeping behind the wheel of his car netted an arrest and multiple charges against a Piqua man on Sunday morning.

Police report that Jah D. Batdorf, 20, was found passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle near South Main and Garnsey around 7:43 a.m.

Officers attempted to wake him but he would not immediately wake up. An open container of alcohol was found in the vehicle.

After waking Batforf, a field sobriety test was administered, which the suspect reportedly failed.

A search of Batdorf’s vehicle revealed additional unopened alcoholic beverages, along with a large amount of cash, a white powdery substance, appearing to be cocaine, a digital scale and an unloaded handgun.

Batdorf was arrested and transported to the Miami County jail. He has been charged with trafficking in drugs, a 4th degree felony due to the close proximity to a school, (Bennett Intermediate). Additional charges include OVI, with an additional charge due to Batdorf’s refusal to take an intoxylizer test, carrying a concealed weapon and underage consumption of alcohol. All of the remaining charges are misdemeanors of the 1st degree.

Batdorf remains incarcerated while he awaits arraignment on the charges.
