MV baseball sweeps Ansonia

ANSONIA — The Mississinawa Valley baseball teams beat Ansonia in both games of a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday in Ansonia.

Mississinawa Valley won the first game 9-5.

The Blackhawks scored two runs in the top of the third inning, five in the fourth and two in the seventh. Ansonia scored three in the bottom of the fifth and two in the seventh.

Mississinawa Valley had eight hits and one error. Ansonia had four this and seven errors.

Zach Armstrong was the winning pitcher for MV, pitching six innings and allowing three runs on four hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Tyler Connor allowed two runs on no hits, one walk and three strikeouts.

For Ansonia Cody Burnfield pitched 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs including two earned runs on seven hits, five walks and four strikeouts. Alex Hughes allowed two unearned runs on one hit, two walks and one strikeout in 3.1 innings.

Dalton Rinderle went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base for MV. Trent Gilbert was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Carson Stump had a double and a RBI, and Connor had a hit and a RBI.

Dalton Subler led Ansonia offensively by going 1-for-4 with two RBI and two stolen bases. Max Muir also drove in a run.

Mississinawa Valley won the second game 14-7.

MV scored in each inning with two runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth, four in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh. Ansonia scored once in the third and fifth innings and added five runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Colyn Nelson pitched 5.1 innings for MV, allowing three runs including one earned run on two hits, six walks and six strikeouts. Dane Blumenstock pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on two hits, four walks and four strikeouts.

Ansonia had four pitchers in the second game — Burnfield, Muir, Subler and Logan Miller — who allowed 14 runs including seven earned rusn on 12 hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Muir pitched the most, going 3.1 innings and striking out three.

Blumenstock went 2-for-4 with a hit by pitch, four stolen bases, two RBI and three runs scored for MV. Nelson was 2-for-3 with a walk, two stolen bases, two runs scored and three RBI. Gilbert was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Cayden Cox had a double, a run scored and two RBI.

Subler and Burnfield both drove in two runs for Ansonia. Cody Teegarden and Michael Werts also each had a RBI.

Ansonia will play host to Arcanum on Monday, and Mississinawa Valley returns to action Monday at Randolph Southern.
