BRADFORD — The Bradford Lady Railroaders started as about as slow as you can before connecting late and putting away the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks in five innings Thursday.
“We struggled to find our timing, just really anxious,” Bradford softball coach Shon Schaffer said.
The Railroaders found their grove in the fourth inning, putting together a string of hits starting with Brooke Brower’s double to left field.
A Brooke Dunlevy sac bunt ignited the team to rattle off hits from freshman Olivia Hart and junior Mindy Brewer.
But it was in the fifth inning that the Roaders really got going.
Starting with a leadoff hit from senior Haley Patty and a walk by junior Erika Hart, junior Brooke Brower delivered another hit, scoring both.
Hart, Brewer, Tori Smith and Mickayla Barga all singled before senior lefty Ciara Broughman drove a triple in the right-center gap and ended the game 10-0.
“I liked the way we ended up hitting the ball,” coach Schaffer said. “We just needed to do the little things in the first part of the game to score runs.”
