National Trail shuts down Ansonia

ANSONIA — The Ansonia baseball team lost 16-0 to National Trail in a five-inning run rule on Wednesday.

National Trail scored one run in the first inning, eight in the third, one in the fourth and six in the fifth while holding Ansonia scoreless for the run-rule victory.

The Tigers had two hits and five errors in the game. The Blazers had 10 hits and no errors.

Dane Wentworth was 1-for-1 for Ansonia. He also was hit by a pitch and stole a base.

Darien Burk was 1-for-2 for the Tigers. Logan Miller was hit by a pitch and stole a base while Alex Hughes and Dalton Subler both reached base by walks.

Cody Burnfield was the losing pitcher, allowing one earned run and eight unearned runs in 2.2 innings on the mound. He gave up four hits, seven walks and struck out three.

Miller pitched the other 2.1 innings, allowing six earned runs and one unearned run on six hits, two walks and four strikeouts.

Ansonia fell to 1-8 with the loss.
