June activities plentiful

Come to the annual Gordon Ice Cream Social to enjoy their famous homemade, hand-cranked ice cream. They offer seven different flavors – vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, lemon, pineapple, peanut butter and peach. Besides our delicious ice cream, they offer grilled hamburgers, cheeseburgers, shredded chicken sandwiches, home-made potato salad, baked beans, pies, and cakes. In addition, there will be vendors set up in the adjoining park.

Mark your calendars for June 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. The church is located at 311 East St. in the village of Gordon on State Route 722, just four miles west of State Route 49 in southeastern Darke County. Hope to see you there!

Abbottsville UMC welcomes you to its Annual Ice Cream Social on June 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at 4135 State Route 49. Mark your calendar for their They will be serving shredded chicken and BBQ sandwiches, cole slaw and potato salad. For dessert, you will have choices of assorted homemade pies, cookies, and brownies and your choice of vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry ice cream.

Low-impact Aqua Aerobics class will start on Wednesday at the Arcanum Pool and run through Aug. 13. The class is open for anyone to join! Class is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning from 11 a.m. to noon. This year’s cost is $45 (the price of a senior citizen pass; thus giving participant’s access to the pool at any time) for the whole summer! All are welcome, to register or if you have questions about the class give Marilyn Graeff a call at 692-8140.

Arcanum Faith United Methodist Church, 101 E. South St., Arcanum, will host a Vacation Bible School event called “Wilderness Escape: Where God Guides and Provides” from June 23 to June 27. For more information or to pre-register, call (937) 692-8934. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required.

Happy 60th wedding anniversary to Shorty and Gerry Schaar! The couple was married in 1954 by Rev. Smack in Arcanum. They are the parents of Donna (Bob) Borton, Danville, Ky.; Tammy (Dan) Chase, Tipp City; and Jimmy (Kay) Schaar, Arcanum. Their children hosted an open house over the weekend to help them celebrate.

Former area residents Joe and Mary Kay Miller will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 15. Some of you may remember Mary Kay as the home economics teacher at AHS and Joe retired from Wayne Industries. They were married on June 14, 1964, at the Jerome United Methodist Church. They have one daughter, Anne (Dave) Kress, and two grandsons, Webb and Tyler. The Millers currently make their home in rural Laura. They will celebrate with an open house on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Union United Methodist Church, 222 Shaw Road, Union (Englewood), Ohio.

Eldon (Gene) and Joyce Brown will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 19. Family and friends are invited to join them on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at 7667 Verona Road, Lewisburg, for a time of refreshments and celebration. Eldon and Joyce live at 2 Greenmoor Drive, Arcanum.

Congratulations to Jordan Greve on his graduation from Bible Baptist College in Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science degree in business management and Bible. Jordon is the son of Pastor Greg and Terri Greve of Arcanum.

Miss Stephani Smeltzer became the bride of Jordan Greve in a beautiful outdoor ceremony at Magnolia Estate in Miamisburg on May 25. Jordan is the son of Pastor Greg and Terri Greve of Arcanum and Stephani is the daughter of Ray and Sherry Smeltzer of Miamisburg. Jordan and Stephani now reside in Piqua. Congratulations to the new bride and groom!
