ARCANUM – Arcanum senior Cheyenne Aikman signed her letter of intent Friday to continue her softball career for the Sinclair Community College Tartan softball team.
“I’m really excited,” Aikman said. “It’s going to be a good season. They have a lot of good people, and I am excited to be part of it.”
Sinclair competes in Region XII of the National Junior College Athletic Association and participates in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference.
“I am glad to have her,” Sinclair head softball coach Steve Beachler said. “She is going to be a tremendous asset to our program.
“I think Cheyenne can go right into the outfield spot for us someplace and fill in for us,” Beachler said. “I’m looking for a lot of good things out of her.”
“I think every girl dreams of playing in college when they get older, but I didn’t expect it,” Aikman said. “It wasn’t even in the mindset two weeks before the season was over. It definitely was not expected, but I am happy to be playing.”
“We have two sophomore starters from this year moving on playing at four-year schools,” coach Beachler said. “We were ranked 20th in the country this year for two weeks and advanced to the regional tournament in Michigan.
“A lot of schools, junior and four-year colleges really took notice,” Beachler added. “We are really getting noted for play and academics. We have (four-year) schools actively recruiting our players.”
“Arcanum is a good school and a good town to come from,” Aikman said.
