COLUMBUS — Franklin Monroe’s Allyson Manning was one of 49 student-athletes chosen to earn college scholarships from the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

In the 22nd year of the scholarship program, the OHSAA distributed $55,000 in college scholarships this year. The 49 selected students were chosen by each of the OHSAA’s six district athletic boards.

“In addition to being excellent students, these 49 young people are leaders in their schools and in their communities,” OHSAA Commissioner Dr. Dan Ross said in a press release. “They truly represent what it means to be a student-athlete. Their families and schools are to be commended for helping them achieve so much already, but their futures are even brighter as they now move on to college. We are very proud of them.”

Manning was one of 43 students to earn $1,000 scholarships. Six others, one from each district, earned a $2,000 OHSAA Spirit of Sport scholarship.

Scholarship recipients were selected were based on a point system that ranked them in grade point averages, class rank, ACT or SAT scores, varsity letters earned and individual and team athletics honors. The $2,000 scholarships go to the highest ranking scholarship recipient in each district based on the point system.
