MELVILLE, N.Y., – SCORE International and Greenville Grace Church recently received a donation of health care supplies under a grant from the Henry Schein Cares Foundation Health Kit Outreach program that enabled it to more effectively carry out its mission of providing quality medical and dental care in areas of the Dominican Republic where the organization has associations with local pastors and missionaries. Its goal is to assist, equip, and encourage these local pastors.
The Health Kit Outreach program supports U.S.-based health professionals who provide volunteer care to at-risk and vulnerable populations globally.
The organization’s team of 31 people arrived in the Dominican Republic in early March. Five dentists from Ohio, a hygienist, seven Cedarville University Students, a pharmacist, an OB-GYN, a construction team and support team members rounded out the team.
In addition to the four days of mobile clinics, the team’s dentists treated over 30 children associated with Josiah’s House, a boy’s home located in San Pedro de Macoris. The team was also able to hand out gift packages containing hygiene supplies to everyone because of the generous donations from several groups and organizations.
“The dental kits and oral hygiene supplies provided by the Henry Schein Cares Foundation allowed us to serve our patients in a quality manner. For many in the Dominican, a toothbrush and toothpaste is a cherished gift,” said Dr. Michael Fourman, SCORE Board member.
