Get physical this winter

GREENVILLE — Linda Boyer, of Versailles, Ohio, has decided to take some time for herself.

For the first time, she visited the YMCA. It was during the YMCA of Darke County’s Winter Fitness Preview, November 29. The class highlighted eight winter classes: Y-Medley, Kinetic Strength, Boot Camp Express, Cycling and Abs, (Women on Weights) WOW, Zumba Toning, Zumba Gold and VeraFlow.

According to YMCA Fitness Coordinator Lynn Blakeley, this is the third time the Y has offered the fitness preview.

“We have new classes starting in the winter and we wanted to showcase those,” she said. “It is a good time to test your wings and decide which classes are the best for you.”

Boyer wants to lose about 50 pounds.

“I’m 54 and I need to get off this weight,” she said. “I want to try different things to use different muscles.”

For early risers, a Boot Camp Express class is offered this winter at 5:30 a.m., led by Instructor and Personal Trainer Joyce Hayes. This class is a great cardio burner, she said. Hayes loves teaching.

“Teaching gets in my blood,” she said. “It energizes me and keeps me on track. It is very motivating to see someone’s personal success. The classes build communities. We are a work-out family.”

According to Boyer, the Group Exercise Department is going very well.

“We see the same faces coming back every month and the evaluations are great,” she said.
