DARKE COUNTY – While some athletes excel in one specific field, others excel in many events.
Track and field allows athletes to show their talents in a variety of competitions, and some athletes do just that. Both of this week’s Daily Advocate athletes of the week have succeeded in multiple track and field events this season and throughout their high school careers.
This week’s Daily Advocate athletes of the week are Bradford boys track and field athlete Johnathon Barbee and Bradford girls track and field athlete Shay LaFollette.
Barbee won the 100-meter dash at the Versailles Boys Invitational with a time of 11.72. He won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.09. The senior also won the long jump with a jump of 19 feet 5.5 inches.
LaFollette began her season by winning the long jump at the Lady Tiger Classique with a jump of 14 feet 7.25 inches. She also won the high jump with a jump of 4 feet 10 inches. The sophomore finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.76.
Last year as a freshman LaFollette made the state track and field meet in the 100-meter hurdles, where she finished 10th in the state.
