Cooler weather has finally arrived

After one of the hottest summers ever, cooler weather has arrived just in time to enjoy my favorite time of year. Don’t you just love all the colors changing and the warm afternoons and cool, crisp nights?

Special birthday wishes are in order for Mrs. Glenn (Helen) Eley. Helen will celebrate her 90th birthday on September 25th. The family has requested a card shower for her birthday, if you know Helen and want to wish her a Happy Birthday, please mail her a card to 1923 Gordon-Landis Road, Arcanum, Ohio.

Faith United Methodist Church invites the community to join them for “Wonderful Wednesdays” at the church. Beginning in late September, a free dinner is served to 5:30-6:30 each week. Following dinner they have children and youth activities following with Senior High Youth (9-12 grades) at 7:00 p.m., Faith Weaver Friends for children age 5 through 5th grade and Junior Youth grades 6 through 8th. Please call the church office with questions at 692-8934 or call to get more information.

The Pitsburg Church of the Brethren will welcome The Redeemed an a-capella quartet at 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2012. The church is located at the west side of Pitsburg, Ohio, at 8376 Pitsburg-Laura Road. The Redeemed is a bond of four friends formed out of desire to magnify the Lord Jesus through old-fashioned gospel singing. Each member grew up in a family where singing was a way of life, and they have learned to love the songs of Jesus, salvation, and God’s grace. With a hymnal for a textbook, they experienced the benefit expressed in Psalms 34:3, “O magnify the Lord with me, let us exalt His name together.” It is their aim to share this truth with everyone who hears them sing. The public is invited to share an evening with this young quartet as they share their ministry in song. A free will offering will be accepted.

“Harmony” a local group will sing at the Darke County Living Center’s Harvest Hoedown celebration on September 30, 2012 from 1-3 p.m. The center is located at 5105 County Home Road, Greenville. This group has come out of retirement to perform songs of the past made famous by such groups as, The Statler Brothers, The Oakridge Boys, The Beach Boys, and many others. The group is made up of Bill Drew, Terry Longfellow, Mike Royer, and Bruce Shank. All of their old fans, as well as the general public, are invited to the Hoedown. Come out and enjoy the entertainment and fellowship. The Arcanum Garden Club invites you to help them name the new park in the green space on North Main Street at the site of the old school. Please drop off your suggestions to the City Building or the Arcanum Public Library by October 1st for consideration. If you haven’t registered to vote the voting registration deadline is October 9th. You can pick up forms to register at the Arcanum Public Library. Remember, Election day is November 6th. Correction from last week’s column and apology to Georgia Davidson of Wayne Lakes is the correct name of little Payton Bankert’s paternal great-grandmother.
