Harless resigns from park board

GREENVILLE – Greenville City Park Board member Tim Harless has resigned from the board. His resignation was effective Monday.

Harless was appointed to the board after former member Matt Kolb resigned in the spring of this year.

“The mayor asked me to serve last spring after Matt Kolb resigned. I told the mayor I would be happy to serve but I winter in the sunny south and the mayor understood that I would be leaving for the winter and would serve until then. That time has come,” wrote Harless in an email to The Daily Advocate.

Harless said he still plans to assist the board.

“When we lost a board member midyear, the mayor had ask[ed] former Street Superintendent Tim Harless to fill that role. Knowing that it would be short-term, Tim’s time on the board has proven to be a huge asset to us. His experience in the budget process has enabled us to look into other avenues of funding and his grant expertise has gained us additional money for 2012 – 2013,” wrote President Kathy Beam in an email to The Daily Advocate.

News of Harless’s resignation comes after Dale Musser, vice president of the board, submitted his resignation on Friday. Musser will stay on the board until the end of the year.

With Musser’s impending departure from the board, Harless said he felt “it was best for the community and the board to put someone in [his] place ASAP so the board would have some stability come the first of the year.”

“…Dale has such a great commitment to this city and more specifically to the park. Dale was very instrumental in all the lagoon projects over the years and many other projects that he was involved with. Dale will be missed on this board, however, I know that he will continue to support the parks and all their endeavors,” wrote Beam.

Park board positions are appointed by the mayor, according to Beam.

“I wish both Tim and Dale the very best and thank them for all they have done for the park and our community,” Beam said.
