The Arcanum Lion’s Club held their Annual Pie Auction on October 18th at Faith UMC. The auction is a private fundraiser within the club with a ladies guest night. Proceeds from the auction were donated to the local family of Curtis Miller, to help with the cost of medical expenses following a double transplant in his battle against cancer. The annual event raised $1000 with the Rev. David Wilson winning the highest bid for a colossal butterscotch pie. Many thanks to Lonnie Norris for conducting the auctioneering and producing much fun and lots of laughter all in the name of charity. The club members look forward to the 2013 and extend their gratitude to Winston Brumbaugh and Brumbaugh Fruit Farm & Bakery for his help in making it all possible.
The Arcanum Garden Club “Green space” project on the site of the old school is progressing nicely. The great rock has been placed and adjustments are being made. The benches have been ordered and trees and plants will be going in before winter is upon us. A committee has been selected of the Mayor, Arcanum School Superintendent, and a member each from AWTHS, Arcanum Garden Club, and the Lion’s Club for this project. This committee has the task of choosing a name for this green space. Area citizens have submitted name suggestions to this committee. If you have questions regarding the green space or wish information on making donations, please contact Pauline Cates: 467-3064, Kornelia Barnett: 692-5504 or Kathy Fout: 692-5583. These garden club members will answer your questions or direct you to a person who can. The Arcanum Garden Club started this project as the first phase. Other phases may be forthcoming in the future. The club hopes the area will be a community gathering place to enjoy for years to come.
