COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — For each of the last eight years, Ohio State has produced the Big Ten's best player.
Samantha Prahalis won the conference player of the year award last season, following a tradition started by Jessica Davenport (2005-2007) and Jantel Lavender (2008-11).
Now, it's likely up to Tayler Hill to extend the streak.
Hill, defensive whiz Amber Stokes and post Ashley Adams provide a solid core for coach Jim Foster's No. 19 Buckeyes. They'll open the season Friday night on the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown in Charleston, S.C., against No. 7 Notre Dame. The Irish have played in the national championship game the past two seasons.
Hill, who led the Big Ten in scoring last year, says she's never been on an Ohio State team that's closer heading into a season.
