Mercer County seeks murder suspect

ROCKFORD – Mercer County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that occurred at 509 North Street in Rockford Thursday morning.
 
When Police Chief Paul May arrived, he entered the residence and found Melinda S. Shinn, 26, deceased in the residence.  It was apparent that the death was suspcious in nature.
 
A warrant has been obtained for the prime suspect, Daniel Charles Martin, 40, for murder. Martin is described as 5’11” tall, 230 lbs, black hair and brown eyes. He may be driving a 1998 red Ford Explorer with Ohio License plate number EHU 5541.

Martin is believed to be armed.  If anyone sees him or knows his whereabouts they are cautioned not to approach him, but to call their local law enforcement agency.  He has a lengthy criminal history including carrying a handgun without a permit.
