Roadway closed due to gas line break

DARKE COUNTY
- U.S. 127 was closed to traffic for approximately two hours Tuesday morning due to a single vehicle accident that broke a gas line, north of Hogpath Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed a red 1998 Ford sedan was traveling north bound on U.S. 127 drove off the right side of the roadway striking an above ground gas line. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jesse Simpson, 24, of West Alexandria, Ohio.
Simpson was transported to Reid Hospital in Richmond, Ind. with minor injuries.
The gas line was broken at the base causing gas to be released. The residence at 4527 U.S. 127 was evacuated by deputies due to the gas line break.
Vectren Gas Company also responded to the scene to secure the broken gas line.
This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
