Mother indicted in stillborn case

UNION CITY, Ind.
- A Grand Jury met Tuesday over the case involving the Union City, Ind. mother, Ana G. Monjes, 28, who was arrested Oct. 22, after allegedly burying her stillborn child which she gave birth to in her apartment.
Monjes has been indicted on four charges: neglect of a dependent causing death, (a class A felony), failure to report a dead body, (a class A misdemeanor), failure to file a certificate of death, (a class B misdemeanor), and failure to secure a permit for disposal of a body, (a class B misdemeanor).
A warrant was issued for the arrest of Monjes on all four charges. The Union City Police Department had received information that Monjes had left Indiana to live with her mother in Rhode Island.
Monjes was taken into custody by the Providence, RI Police Department at approximately 8:30 p.m. at her mother’s residence. Monjes will be returned to the Randolph County Jail, pending an extradition hearing. Monjes will held with a bail set at $50,000.
