GREENVILLE - Norma Fae Knick, who was Darke County Auditor for eight terms, from 1963-1994, liked serving in the public sector.
“I enjoyed every year as auditor,” she said. “What I miss now is the work. The citizens of Darke County were always good to me.”
Now, 88, she said she was only opposed twice at election time during her tenure as a public official.
“I enjoyed every day of it,” she said. “It’s like one big family. Everyone got along. People came in and I think my department treated them well. Now, it is much more difficult with the economy. With taxes, people think we can cut them, and we can’t.”
She said elected officials in 1962 in Darke County were Clerk of Courts Glenn Warner, Common Pleas Judge Howard Eley, Probate Judge Ed Williams; Darke County Engineer Robert Horn; and Treasurer Loris Grote. Commissioners at the time were Rolland J. Byers, C. Ray Fourman and Lowell Hawkey.
