GHS honors fall athletes

GREENVILLE – Greenville High School honored its fall sports teams and players recently at a banquet at the high school.

For the girls cross country team, Kristen Karns was named the Most Valuable Runner, Ally Hayes was named the Rookie of the Year, Amanda Blocher received the Coaches Award, and Emily Hayes received the Sportsmanship Award.

For the boys cross country team, Jacob Butsch was named the Most Valuable Runner, Jacob Hounshell was named the Rookie of the Year, Wyatt Sharp received the Coaches Award, and Tyler Trick received the Sportsmanship Award.

For the boys golf team, Zach Hounshell received the Coaches Award, Drew New was named Most Improved, Kendall Hemer was recognized for having the lowest stroke average (41.26), and Addison Miller received the Sportsmanship Award.

From the girls golf team, Ripley Lewis received the Coaches Award, Sierra Riffle was named Most Improved, and Jen Murray was recognized for having the lowest stroke average (49.1).

For the boys soccer team, Matt Westfall was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player, Brandon Myers was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player, Sam Bowers received the Coaches Award, Doug Wise received the Sportsmanship Award, and Chad Denman was named Most Improved.

For the girls soccer team, Mikayla Byers was named the Most Valuable Defensive Player, Jessica Kerg was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player, Savannah Hauberg received the Coaches Award, Sarah Green received the Sportsmanship Award, and Dani Hathaway was named Most Improved.

From the girls tennis team, Kelsey McClure was named the Most Improved Player/Teammate, Alex Myers received the Coaches Award, Kirby Lantz received the Sportsmanship Award, Raquel Navas-Davis was recognized for having the best individual record, and Sophia Navas-Davis was named the team MVP.

For the volleyball team, Megan Galloway was named the Offensive Player of the Year, Emily Beanblossom was named the Defensive Player of the Year, Rachel Foreman was named the team MVP, Erin Albright received the Lady Wave Sportsmanship Award, and Chloe Light was named Most Improved.

From the football team, Zane Mize received the Coaches Award, Ryan Eldridge received the Offensive Award, Bryce Jenkinson received the Defensive Award, Clay Guillozet was named the Most Improved, and Kyle Bruner received the Golden Helmet.

For the cheerleading squad, Macia Reed received the Coaches Award, and Kristen Grim received the Sportsmanship Award.

Adam Hickerson (captain) from the boys golf team, Mikayla Byers (captain) from the girls soccer team, Jessica Kerg (captain) from the girls soccer team, Caitlyn Eckstein (captain) from the girls cross country team and Emily Hayes (captain) from the girls cross country team were recognized as four-year award winners.

Greenville’s all Greater Western Ohio Conference players were honored including first team award winners Sophia Navas-Davis from the girls tennis team, Adam Hickerson and Kendall Hemer from the boys golf team, Cheyann Beam, Emily Hayes and Kristen Karns from the girls cross country team, Jacob Butsch from the boys cross country team, Aubrey DeVoss from the girls soccer team, Sam Bowers and Matt Westfall from the boys soccer team, and Kyle Bruner from the football team. Girls tennis coach Jim Koontz was recognized for being the GWOC North girls tennis coach of the year as the Lady Wave won the division championship.

Michelle Borgerding was honored for setting a record with 24 wins in a season at second singles for the girls tennis team, and Raquel Navas-Davis was honored for setting a record with 22 wins in a season at third singles for the girls tennis team.
