CELINA – The Greenville girls basketball team led for most of the second half against Wayne Saturday night but couldn’t hold on and ended up losing 57-50 in overtime.
Playing in the consolation game of the 27th annual OVISCO Classic in Celina after losing 65-22 to Celina Friday night, Greenville struggled to deal with Wayne’s defensive pressure Saturday night, for which coach Kyle Vanover took responsibility.
“It’s my fault,” the first-year Lady Wave head coach said. “I didn’t make adjustments the proper way. The kids played their tails off. It was one of the hardest efforts, getting on the floor, loose balls, really coming together as a team. Coach Vanover takes full responsibility for this tonight. I didn’t have the right offense at the time. Didn’t get the ball where it needed to be. Put my kids in bad situations on the floor against the pressure. But you got to give it to Wayne. They played hard.”
