Versailles takes down Covington

Versailles’ Chad Winner breaks free and heads to the net against Covington during their match on Saturday night in Versailles.


VERSAILLES – The Versailles Tigers clawed through Covington on Saturday for their third consecutive win.

Covington only led once on its first two points of the evening.

The Tigers took control four minutes into the first quarter when Chad Winner pulled off two treys for some early momentum. Versailles led by four going into the second period, but the score stayed low at 8-4.

During the second quarter, the Tigers turned their corner. Right off the break, Versailles made 12 in a row before the Buccs could respond. The Tigers wrapped up the half up by 17 points, with Kyle Ahrens scoring 12 points.

Versailles continued where it left off in the third with a seven-point streak, and The Tigers eventually outscored the the Buccs by 12.

From there, it was all about maintaining a solid lead, which the Tigers did easily thanks to Ahrens draining threes to keep getting ahead.

Versailles won the night 60-32.

Ahrens led his team with 21 points, while Damian Richard and Chad Winner tied with 14 each.
