GREENVILLE — The 2012 Greenville softball team was honored by the members of the Ohio 129th General Assembly on Friday for becoming the 2012 Division II State runner-ups.
State Rep. Jim Buchy was present to personally hand the team a certificate of congratulations that was signed by President of the Ohio Senate Tom Niehaus, President Pro Tempore Keith Faber and Ohio State Senator Bill Beagle.
Rep. Buchy spoke about the profound achievements of the Lady Wave softball program and remarked that its success was a testament to the players and the coaches.
The certificate of congratulations read that the Lady Wave team was to be “heartily commended, and the Green Wave’s accomplishments reflect an extraordinary collective effort by a gifted group of athletes.”
The letter highlighted the team’s 29-5 2012 record and elaborated on the determined attitude of the team, saying “Time and again, they have risen to the occasion, amply demonstrating their unflagging determination, and their impressive maturity and finesse have gained them widespread respect, even among their most formidable rivals.”
The letter complemented head coach Jerrod Newland’s leadership, saying that the coach “has guided the squad with unwavering expertise and encouragement, and he merits enthusiastic praise for coaxing admirable performances out of the Green Wave in each competitive outing.”
The occasion also served as a reunion for returning members of the 2012 softball team, who returned for the evening to receive the award.
Upon receiving the honor, Newland thanked his team, Rep. Buchy and the members of the Ohio Senate, and promised that “the best was yet to come.”
“These ten years have been great,” Newland said. “And I can’t wait for the next ten more.”
