Woodruff leads county wrestlers at invite

TIPP CITY – Greenville placed fifth and Arcanum placed 10th out of 18 teams at the 2012 Tippecanoe Holiday Invitational Saturday.

The best finish of the Darke County wrestlers came from Greenville’s Nick Woodruff, who won the 220-pound division. Woodruff pinned Thurgood Marshall’s Mario Bell in 1:29 in the championship match after previously pinning Fenwick’s Ben Stegbauer, pinning Tippecanoe’s Chip Flohr and pinning Centerville’s Alex Broach.

Also at the invitational, Greenville’s Kyle Carlisle placed second in the 113-pound division.

Greenville’s Nelson Roberts finished third in the 138-pound division. Arcanum’s Keegan Artz finished sixth in the division.

Greenville’s Daniel Cline finished third in the 132-pound division, Arcanum’s Caleb Sanders finished fourth in the 106-pound division, and Arcanum’s Lucas Grower finished fourth in the 182-pound division.

Greenville’s Ian Warner placed fifth in the 126-pound division while Arcanum’s Chase Gostomsky placed sixth in the 160-pound division.

Arcanum’s Kellan Sanders finished sixth in the 195-pound division. Greenville’s Kory Bannon placed seventh in the division.

Last weekend the Greenville junior varsity wrestling team placed sixth at the Versailles junior varsity invitational. For the Wave, Ian Warner won the 126-pound division, Craig Nelson finished second in the 195-pound division, Collin Jennings placed third in the 113-pound division, Ben Whittington finished fourth in the 195-pound division, Sean Wideman placed fifth in the 106-pound division, Tylor Bowman finished fifth in the 132-pound division, and Brennan Gettinger finished sixth in the 160-pound division.
