GREENVILLE - The City of Greenville wishes to remind local business owners and residents to keep sidewalks and curbs in front of their businesses and homes free of snow and ice.
Some community members have been walking in the streets because of adverse conditions on the sidewalks, which could cause a hazardous situation for drivers and residents.
The City of Greenville’s Ordinance 660.05 specifies that “No owner or occupant of lots or lands abutting any sidewalk, curb or gutter shall fail to keep the sidewalks, curbs and gutters in repair and free from snow, ice or any nuisance, and to remove from such sidewalks, curbs or gutters all snow and ice accumulated thereon within a reasonable time, which will ordinarily not exceed 12 hours after any storm during which the snow and ice has accumulated.”
Whoever violates this section is guilty of a minor misdemeanor.
Greenville Mayor Mike Bowers said that he hoped the reminder would help city residents maintain their sidewalks and curbs so local streets could stay clear and safe for pedestrian traffic.
