The Tigers were quickly up 12-0 as Matt Mangen got a pin in the 132-pound division.
“Versailles has a heck of a team,” Greenville varsity wrestling coach John Shutts said. “We knew coming in they were going to be pretty tough. We knew we were going to have our hands full.”
Nelson Roberts got the Wave on the board, winning the 138-pound division.
Versailles accumulated seven pins at 126, 132, 145, 152, 160, 170 and 195 pound divisions in the first nine matches of the meet, extending their lead to 48-3.
“We’ve got a pretty good team this year,” Versailles varsity wrestling coach A.J. Bey said. “They (Greenville) are going through some growing pains right now. He’s going through some pains over there, but he’s (Shutts) a good coach. That program will come out of it.”
Greenville senior 220-pound division wrestler Nick Woodruff got the Wave’s only pin of the night, making the score 48-9.
“Our two seniors did well, Nelson Roberts and Nick Woodruff,” Shutts said. “Woodruff put on a heck of a show for everybody.”
Another Tiger pin from 106-pound Nathan Henry followed by a win from Greenville’s Leo Vogel closed out the meet and the Tigers’ victory.
Greenville did not fill three weight divisions, giving Versailles victories in all but three weight divisions on the night.
