DARKE COUNTY – The Darke County Engineer’s Office is experiencing declining revenue from the Ohio gas tax, which may lead to future cuts in road pavement.
The nation is seeing an increase in energy efficient cars and a decline in gas usage, and when combined with a static Ohio gas tax, causes problems for the Darke County Engineer’s Office funding.
“What we’re fighting is the fact of continually increasing prices versus what is now static revenue with the past seven years,” Darke County Engineer James Surber said.
Surber explained that the county’s engineer office 2012 revenue is just slightly under the revenue received in 2006.
