ARCANUM – The Arcanum Athletics Department will honor three inductees into the Athletic Hall of Fame during the Arcanum and Marion Local boys basketball game beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The induction ceremony will take place at the end of the reserve game and before the varsity tip off. All previous Hall of Fame inductees are encouraged to attend.

This year’s inductees include:

  • Mike Swank (class of 1976) for his contributions in cross country (three years), baseball (four years) and basketball (three years). He attained many honors in these sports with the highest honor being named to the 1976 state basketball tournament first team.
  • Tara Zimmer (class of 2001) for her contributions in swimming (four years in high school and four years in college). Zimmer, with the help of her mother, was responsible for the creation of the Arcanum swim team in 1997-98. Her swimming career included four years of varsity high school swimming. One of her biggest achievements was swimming the breaststroke at the state meet. She also was named the Darke County swimmer of the year in 2001. She went on to swim at Ball State where she was a scholar-athlete and holds the second-fastest time in the 200 breaststroke for the school.
  • Tyler Small (class of 1994) for his contributions in cross country (four years) and track and field (four years). He was the Cross County Conference champion all four years and was all-Ohio in 1991, 1992 and 1993. He has numerous accomplishments including the Arcanum High School school 5K record of 15:39. In track, Small was a four-time league champion in the 1,600 meter run and 3,200 meter run. He also was on the podium at state for cross country and track three times. He ran for Washington University in St. Louis and continues to run periodically, competing in many marathons.

A dinner of beef and noodles, grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, salad, dessert and drink will be served from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the cafetorium. The price of dinner tickets is $10. Tickets are available from Chris Kessler at (937) 459-0180 or home games prior to the event.

A reception of cake and punch will be held following the varsity game.
