WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE – The Greenville wrestling team placed 17th out of 18 teams at the 2013 Miami Trace McDonald’s Invitational this past weekend.
Greenville’s Nelson Roberts was the runner up in the 138-pound class to Athens’ Cory Abdella. Roberts pinned Circleville’s Trevor Fullen in 3:24, beat Washington Court House’s Anthony Smith 7-3 and beat Gallia Academy’s Ben Bush 5-3 in pool wrestling. He beat Sheridan’s Drew Stebelton 6-3 in the semifinals and lost 7-1 to Abdella in the championship.
Greenville’s William Nibert placed eighth in the 152-pound class. In pool wrestling he pinned Westfall’s Ethan Allen in 5:48, pinned McClain’s Ethan Paul in 1:20 and was pinned by Amanda-Clearcreek’s Caleb Horn in 4:11. Nibert then lost 6-3 to Wyoming’s Austin Bauman in the semifinals and lost the seventh-place match 14-2 to Bethel-Tate’s Austin Kinnard.
Roberts moved up to 11th in Greenville history in career wins with a record of 111-54. He passes John Poland (110-33-1), Selo Ramjattan (110-36), Kyle Harris (109-45) and Justin Fletcher (108-51).
Nick Woodruff is tied for third in career pins with 58. He is tied with Zac Randall, who had 58 from 2005-08.
