Begin again

We are now less than a week away from February. Some of us have already lost sight of our goals for 2013. However I am here to remind you of your goals and to encourage you to hold on to your dreams. We all need motivation from time to time, some more than others and we all slide backwards from time to time. That’s ok, it’s even to be expected. However, the year is not ruined because we had more ambition than time or will power. We know we cannot restart the calendar, there are no do-overs in life, but we can still start fresh tomorrow. In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s I remember a popular saying, “Today is the first day of the rest of your life”. The saying is clever and powerful. Each of us will probably interpret the phrase differently. I hear hope in the phrase; that each day we can renew ourselves. Therefore, if we made poor lifestyle choices today, we choose not to dwell in the past but to welcome the opportunity to do better tomorrow. With each day we can strengthen our resolve until eventually it becomes easier to make healthy choices.

Don’t Quit When things go wrong as they sometimes will, When the road you’re trudging seems all up hill, When the funds are low and the debts are high And you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit, Rest if you must, but don’t you quit. Life is queer with its twist and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a failure turns about When he might have won had he stuck it out; Don’t give up though the pace seems slow— You may succeed with another blow, Success is failure turned inside out— The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems so far; So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit— It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
