GREENVILLE – Tippecanoe upset the Greenville wrestling team 42-36 in the first round of the regional semifinals of the Ohio High School Athletic Association team tournament Wednesday night in Greenville.
As the top seed in the bracket, Greenville was hosting the regional match up against the fourth-seeded team from Tippecanoe. Greenville got six pins on the night but was pinned five times, lost two decisions and forfeited one match.
“This is the only way to determine who is a better team, you wrestle head to head,” Greenville wrestling coach John Shutts said of facing Tippecanoe in the OHSAA’s inaugural team wrestling tournament. “They beat us so that proves to me they’ve worked a little bit harder than we have since the last time we met. We have to accept that fact and decide what we’re going to do with it.”
