Happy Valentine's Day

Are you ready for Valentine’s Day? Remember when you were a child in grade school and it was upmost importance to have the perfect decorated shoebox to accept your Valentine cards at the classroom party? Or that you chose the right card for each classmate? Do you still send out Valentine cards today? Perhaps you might want to purchase a couple of extra cards this year and send them out with a message to a shut-in or widow/widower in your neighborhood or a member of your church, Valentines are for more than just your sweetheart, it is a time to share the joy and love with all those important people in your life.

Have you been saving coupons for BoxTops4 Education? This week the Arcanum-Butler PTO has placed a collection/drop-off box in the lobby area at Suttons to collect those box tops/coupons. The box will be at Suttons through this Saturday, February 16th. Each box top is worth 10¢ to help our schools. Box tops are available on almost all General Mills products. It’s a Boy! Keegan Douglas Harman was born at born at 10:48 a.m. on January 31, 2013 weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces and is 20 1/2" long. Per Grandma Sharyn and Grandpa Doug Harman of Arcanum, he is adorable! Keegan was born at Wayne HealthCare to proud parents Jason Harman and Jamee Blankenship of New Madison and was welcomed home by his big sisters 8 year old Kearstin and 2 1/2 year old Brooklyn. Other grandparents are Melissa Howell, Larry Besecker and Steve Blankenship along with great-grandparents Fran Hinshaw (of which he shares his birthday) and Lee Blankenship.

Save the date for President's Day February 18th! The Arcanum Public Library will be showing “Jock the Hero Dog” at 2:00 pm. This is an animated adventure about a dog who is the runt of the litter and his young man. The voices of Donald Sutherland, Helen Hunt and Bryan Adams bring the story to life. It is rated PG and free popcorn will be served. All are welcome!

The Graeff Family have set up an endowment at the HOPE Foundation of Darke County, to administer a new scholarship this year in the memory of former teacher, coach and administrator Dick Graeff. The scholarship was established by Dick’s wife, Marilyn, and his children, Gretchen (and Terry) Hawk of Tipp City; Lisa (and Ken) Simko of Mentor; and Molly (and Robert) Smart of Clayton. Any Arcanum varsity athlete in the class of 2013 may apply for the scholarship, with preference going to a student who participated in basketball, cross country or track. Applicants are required to complete the general HOPE Foundation scholarship application, which makes them eligible for not only the Dick Graeff Scholarship, but many other scholarships as well. Applications are due April 1st and are available from the high school guidance counselor or online at www.hopedarkecounty.com/application.html.

Also at our library featured this month is a special collection of the character Garfield on display at the library through the end of February, courtesy of Deanna Monnin. The library invites you to share your special collection, if interested please contact Karen at the library at 692-8484.
