GREENVILLE
- Community leaders met to show their support for the March of Dimes Thursday afternoon as Darke County kicked off their campaign to raise $100,000.
Sonnie Rhoades gave an emotional speech to the group about how the March of Dimes helped to save her granddaughter’s life, Ruth Ann Carity, 5 years old, after she was born 13 weeks early due to her mother having a life-threatening disease.
“Because of the March of Dimes, we have her today,” said Rhoades who wanted people to know that the money raised doesn’t get wasted. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Carity made valentines for all the attendees that were lovingly signed “Ruth” in her own little handwriting.
Bill LaFramboise, Greenville Technology Incorporated and Shawn Daughtery of Greenville Federal Bank are the co-chairs for Darke County’s fundraising effort that will end with the annual walk “March for Babies” that will be held on April 27, beginning at the Darke County Fairgrounds.
This year marks the 75th anniversary for the March of Dimes. To help raise funds go to marchforbabies.org.
