Since March of last year, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office has acted on a 2007 law that requires state schools to submit a copy of their school safety plans and school diagrams. Darke County schools retained up-to-date plans that had been updated within the last year. Greenville City School District recently implemented a safety rule that everyone that enters a building within the district must show a photo I.D.
DARKE COUNTY – With the recent one-year anniversary approaching of the Ohio shooting at Chardon High School, both Ohio Attorney General Mike Dewine and local Darke County schools are continually working to ensure student safety.
Since March of last year, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office has acted on a 2007 law that requires state schools to submit a copy of their school safety plans and school diagrams.
“After the Chardon (High School) shooting, we noticed there was a large number of schools that did not comply with that,” DeWine said. We sent letters and started calling schools requesting plans. As a result we’re now down to just a handful of schools that have not sent in any school safety plan.”
