Versailles swim team finishes 8th at districts


OXFORD — The Versailles High School boys swim team placed eighth at the Ohio High School Athletic Association Southwest District Division II swim meet on Friday at Miami University as five Tiger swimmers qualified for state.

Thirty-five teams scored points at the district swim meet. The top 10 team scores are as follows: first place, Dayton Oakwood, 433 point; second place, Cincinnati Wyoming, 230 points; third place, Dayton Carroll, 176 points; fourth place, Cincinnati Madeira, 164 points; fifth place, Kettering Alter, 157 points; sixth place, Cincinnati Indian Hill, 133 points; seventh place, Cincinnati Mariemont, 125 points; eighth place, Versailles, 121, points; ninth place, Tipp City Tippecanoe, 98 points; and 10th place, Springfield Catholic Central, 93 points.

Seven school records were broken.

The 200-yard medley relay (Mitchell Stover, Cole Albers, Sam Subler and Sam Prakel) swam the event in 1:41.53, which broke their own previous school record of 1:43.41 set on Feb. 2. Mitchell Stover swam the 50-yard backstroke as the first leg of the relay in 24.94, which broke his own previous record of 25.59 set on Dec. 15.

Mitchell Stover swam the 200-yard individual medley in 1:52.38, which broke his own record of 1:55.94 set on Feb. 2.

The 200-yard freestyle relay (Cole Albers, Sam Subler, Sam Prakel and Andrew Kramer) swam the event in 1:30.54, breaking the previous school record of 1:31.39 set by Mitchell Stover, Sam Prakel, Andrew Kramer and Cole Albers on Jan. 19.

Mitchell Stover swam the 100-yard backstroke in 51.49, which broke his own previous record of 52.26 set on Jan. 19.

The 400-yard freestyle relay (Mitchell Stover, Andrew Kramer, Sam Subler and Cole Albers) swam the event in 3:18.26, which broke their own previous school record of 3:23.18 set on Feb. 8. Mitchell Stover swam the 100-yard freestyle as the first leg of the relay in 47.91, which broke his own record of 48.51 set on Jan. 12.

Results for the Versailles boys’ swimmers are as follows:

200-yard medley relay: seventh place, Mitchell Stover, Cole Albers, Sam Subler and Sam Prakel, 1:41.53

200-yard freestyle: 20th place, Andrew Kramer, 1:54.36

200-yard individual medley: third place, Mitchell Stover, 1:52.38

100-yard butterfly: 23rd place, Sam Subler, 59.27

100-yard freestyle: 19th place, Sam Prakel, 51.84

500-yard freestyle: 19th place, Andrew Kramer, 5:29.14

200-yard freestyle relay: fifth place, Cole Albers, Sam Subler, Sam Prakel and Andrew Kramer, 1:30.54

100-yard backstroke: third place, Mitchell Stover, 51.49

100-yard breaststroke: 12th place, Cole Albers, 1:03.56

400-yard freestyle relay: third place, Mitchell Stover, Andrew Kramer, Sam Subler and Cole Albers, 3:18.26

Five Versailles boys swimmers will compete at the 2013 Ohio high school swimming and diving championships scheduled for Wednesday through Saturday at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.

Qualifiers for the state meet from Versailles are as follows (the number in parentheses is the place where they are seated for the meet):

Cole Albers: 200-yard medley relay (19th), 200-yard freestyle relay (13th place) and 400-yard freestyle relay (10th)

Andrew Kramer: 200-yard freestyle relay (13th place), 400-yard freestyle relay (10th) and alternate for 200 medley relay

Sam Prakel: 200-yard medley relay (19th), 200-yard freestyle relay (13th place) and alternate for 400 freestyle relay

Mitchell Stover: 200-yard individual medley (fourth), 100-yard backstroke (fourth), 200-yard medley relay (19th) and 400-yard freestyle relay (10th)

Sam Subler: 200-yard medley relay (19th), 200-yard freestyle relay (13th place) and 400-yard freestyle relay (10th)
