Versailles senior Andrew Slonkosky wrestles during the Ohio High School Athletic Association individual state wrestling tournament Thursday in Columbus.
COLUMBUS — Versailles’ three state qualifying wrestlers each were eliminated from the Ohio High School Athletic Association individual state wrestling tournament.
Senior Andrew Slonkosky in the 126-pound weight class, junior Matt Mangen in the 132-pound weight class and sophomore Kyle Dieringer in the 195-pound weight class all competed in the Division III state wrestling meet at the Jerome Schottenstein Center in Columbus this past weekend.
Slonkosky lost his opening match to Martins Ferry senior Damon Outward 13-5. He then beat Lorain Clearview senior Mike Hollingsworth 14-4. Slonkosky was knocked out of the tournament when he lost 9-5 to West Liberty-Salem freshman Trevor Anderson.
Mangen lost his opening match to Ederton senior Jared VanVleet 10-1. He then lost to Loraine Clearview senior Matt Hollingsworth 5-3 to be eliminated from the tournament.
Dieringer lost his opening match to Johnstown-Monroe junior Clayton Bullard 8-2. He then won his next match as Upper Sandusky junior Dylan Robertson forfeited. Dieringer was eliminated from the tournament when he lost 5-1 to Kirtland senior Evan Bettrager.
