GREENVILLE - It has been quite a ride over the past 10 years for Greenville prep sports.
In the fall of the 1999-2000 school year, Greenville was preparing to conclude its time in the Greater Miami Valley Conference (GMVC), and was set to move with Northmont, Piqua, Sidney, Trotwood-Madison, Troy and Vandalia Butler to the Western Division of the to-be-created, 14-school Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC).
Seven schools from the Western Ohio League (WOL), Centerville, Beavercreek, Fairmont, Springfield North, Springfield South, Xenia and Wayne, would form the GWOC Eastern Division.
But after four years, 2001-02 school year through the 2004-05 year, Greenville was in the conference, but moved to the Mid-Miami Athletic League (MML) for the single school year of 2005-06.
Since then, for this the fourth year, Green Wave sports has competed as an independent, but will be back with all of the original Western Division schools, except Northmont, in the GWOC North, now one of three six-team divisions.
Northmont will stay with Centerville, Beavercreek, Fairmont, Wayne, and consolidated Springfield in the GWOC Central Division.
In the South will be Miamisburg, Springboro, Lebanon, Xenia, Fairborn and the newly-added West Carrollton.
So, this will be the fifth different Wave sports conference situation over the past decade, and would seem to signal the start of a long period of stability for Greenville athletics, at least in terms of conference affiliation.
