Greenville sports to play GWOC
2010-11 school year - Cross Country, bowling, swimming, wrestling, track, cheerleading and academic teams, plus all middle school sports.
GREENVILLE - Eric Spahr has come to know Greenville officials, and particularly Susie Riegle, Greenville school superintendent, very well.
And it was with obvious friendship and happiness that Spahr came to the Treaty City Wednesday night to publicly announce the school's return to the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC), a visit which followed a unanimous vote from principals and athletic directors of the 16 current GWOC members.
The commissioner talked with this reporter out in the lobby at the beginning of the Wednesday night Fall Awards Program in the Greenville high school gymnasium before speaking to the crowd of parents, friends, coaches, athletes and school officials.
"The day (Wednesday's meeting and vote) went better than expected, and I am really excited that the conference has expanded, and done so with a unanimous vote," he said with a smile.
"This is a step forward for the conference, we are one big family, 18 schools, and I want to move forward in that manner. Each school is a member of the whole conference, not just one division, and we will keep scheduling play among all the schools. That is set, and it will be maintained."
For football, as an example, Greenville will play five North Division games, against Butler, Piqua, Sidney Trotwood-Madison, and Troy, plus one game versus a GWOC Central team and one against a GWOC South team, each season beginning in 2012.
