Versailles seniors Megan Campbell, on the floor, and Susan Berger, reaching for the ball, compete against Mississinawa Valley last season. The Lady V-Tigers begin the new girls basketball season at Celina next weekend.
VERSAILLES - "That's the ultimate goal," varsity girls basketball coach Jacki Stonebraker said. "You want to play good basketball, but you also want to build a family, too. And hopefully the girls feel like they're part of our family."
And a very talented family at that.
The Versailles Lady Tigers have had numerous successful seasons under Stonebraker, and this season looks to follow the trend.
"We've got a lot of the same girls back. We lost our six seniors, but again, we have six seniors this year that got a lot of playing time with the varsity last year," Stonebraker said. "That one class just seems to keep on rolling over these last couple of years.
"It's a new group. It's a very new dynamic of group," Stonebraker added. "They get along really well, on the court and off the court. It's just a different type of basketball that they play."
Due to the past success of the program, it is inevitable that there will be pressure for this team to stack up to those of that have come before.
