King’s Command looks to expand in Versailles

COLUMBUS – King’s Command Foods, LLC was approved by the Ohio Development Services Agency for a 1.164 percent, 7-year Job Creation Tax Credit Monday.

The value of the tax credit is estimated at $379,000.

The credit is part of an overall incentive package being considered by state and local officials to help land a 160-job expansion at the company’s Versailles location at 770 N. Center St. where it currently employs 47 people.

Last month the company applied for a $1 million building permit for its facility that includes a 7,600-square-foot addition to the 35,000 square foot space.

According to the State of Ohio, the expansion would generate $4.7 million in new annual payroll and retain $1.5 million in existing payroll.

The Village of Versailles and Versailles Exempted Village Schools recently granted the company a 15-year property tax abatement worth $394,920.

“Kings Command is already a very valued member of the Versailles business community so any expansion is more than welcome. We’ll do whatever is feasible to help facilitate the growth of such a quality company,” said Versailles Village Administrator Rodd Hale.

According to Darke County Economic Development Director Marc Saluk, the expansion project is competitive with other locations nationally being considered. The Village of Versailles, Darke County Economic Development, Partnering for Progress, and the Dayton Development Coalition have worked together towards securing the project.

“This is an outstanding company and another outstanding growth opportunity for Darke County. The Village, through its resources and workforce, did most of the selling for this project on their own by virtue of their quality. And that’s a great place to be from an economic development perspective,” said Saluk.

King’s Command Foods, Inc. came to Versailles in 2006. In 2014, the cooking operations, based in Kent, Washington, combined with American Prepared Foods Group, a division of American Foods Group, LLC of Green Bay, Wisconsin to form. The company has another production facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The company manufacturers pre-cooked and ready-to-cook meat products for food service and retail industries. The Versailles location receives raw materials and manufacturers final products.

JobsOhio and the state are evaluating the project and the application; further incentives programs continue to be evaluated.
