DARKE COUNTY — Ever been at the meat counter and wondered about how to prepare all those different cuts of meat? Or just looking for some guidance in buying local fruits, vegetables and meats?

Darke County Farm Bureau with the help from Our Ohio and local commodity groups are invited July 1, 8, 15 and 22 for a four-part cooking series featuring one night each of beef, chicken, pork and baking.

“We will be teaching you what the cuts of meats are and showing you the best way to cook those different cuts,” said organizers. “We will be featuring chefs and butchers each night who will teach you how to cook a meal from start to finish using locally grown foods from Darke County.”

The first two classes in the series will be held at the KitchenAid Experience in downtown Greenville. The night of July 1, night the feature is baking, Janet of Janet’s Broadway Bakery will be presenting.

“The night of July 8, we will be featuring chicken, and Eileen Litchfield will be the chef, and Levi King from King and Sons will be demonstrating how to properly cut up a chicken,” according to organizers.

Bears Mill will host the third class on the July 15. This night the feature is beef, and Jeff Besecker with the Old Arcana will be the chef. The final night will be July 22 and will be held at The Winery at Versailles. The featured meat will be pork. The featured chef that night is Doug Suber. Each class will start at 7 p.m. and last until 9. The doors will open at 6:30 for those interested in early shopping.

Cost is $5 per person for Farm Bureau Members and $10 per person for non-Farm Bureau members each night.

“You may sign up for all four nights (at a discounted rate) or just one night,” organizers said. “Space is limited so it will be filled at a first-come first-serve basis. For more information or to make reservations call the Darke County Farm Bureau office at 1-855-335-1471.”
