ANSONIA — Treva Hamilton was chosen as this year’s Sweetheart of the Year by the Ansonia Area Senior Citizens.

She received a box of candy, flowers and a card from her peers at the weekly gathering on Wednesday.

“I was surprised,” said Hamilton, who teared up a little bit when she was learned she was this year’s recipient.

The former Treva Dickey, she grew up in the Horatio/Webster areas, went to school in Gettysburg for 10 years and finished school at Jackson, now Mississinawa Valley.

She meet her husband Bob Hamilton of Greenville while working at the Hamburger Shop in Greenville.

“He was driving a black, 1957 Chevrolet convertible,” Hamilton recalled. “We got married on Jan. 14, 1961.”

Treva has also worked at Stover’s Eggs, Westinghouse for 15 years and was an inserter for a weekly newspaper for 21 years.

Now retired, she is president of the Ansonia Area Senior Citizens and indicated she was not aware of this honor she was going to receive. She is also active in the Ansonia American Legion Auxiliary and is in charge of sending cards out to the sick.

She is also seen working at many of the Legion’s functions.

Treva said she enjoys mowing the yard and working in her garden. She especially loves playing cards with the senior citizens and at the American Legion.
