Ohio’s Republican delegates readying for contested Cleveland

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio’s Republican delegates are moving ahead with planning for a contested national convention in Cleveland that could yet allow their governor to emerge as the nominee.

Delegation and state party chairman Matt Borges says the 66 delegates are ready to vote for Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik) “as many times as it takes.” The delegates gathered just north of Columbus to discuss everything from hotel arrangements and entertainment outings to representatives on convention committees.

There was plenty of pep talk for the Kasich plan, which depends on businessman Donald Trump falling short of a majority and delegates moving to Kasich on subsequent ballots as the party’s best hope in November.

Kasich won his state’s 66 delegates by winning the March 15 primary, but is a distant third with only 153 overall.
