GETTYSBURG — It was a hot day but that didn’t keep people away from the second annual Gettysburg Homecoming Festival.
The day was launched with a 5K Walk/Run, in which 23 participated. It began and ended at the Gettysburg Cardinal Center (formerly Gettysburg Elementary School). Esther (Petersime) Clark, as indicated in a story in The Daily Advocate last last week, served as grand marshal in an auto driven by Darke County Municipal Court Judge Julie Monnin.
Featured in the parade included Greenville Marching Band and the Wavettes, numerous fire apparatus from Gettysburg and Bradford; Adams Township vehicles; numerous tractors; a unit for the Hooked On Fishing, Not On Drugs program; some Shriners; and some ponies and carts.
A community-wide garage sale was underway inside the Cardinal Center all day. Also there was a historic display of Petersime Incubator Co. memorabilia, including a classic incubator; class photos of Gettysburg graduates; a bounce house; and other activities for children. There were also food concessions with Roy Harrison of Greenville seen grilling the hot dogs on a grill at one point.
Softball or volleyball was also expected to be played.
Proceeds from the Gettysburg Homecoming Festival goes to the Friends of the Cardinal Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation, for continued Cardinal Center renovation, operation and funding of community programs.
