TROY – A Piqua woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Washington and Eldean Road on Monday morning.

Robin L. Supinger, 55, of Piqua was killed when the vehicle she was driving was struck by a car that apparently ran a stop sign.

Deputies from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, along with firefighters and medics from the Troy Fire Department, were dispatched to the area around 9 a.m. on the report of a crash, and one of the vehicles burning.

Chief Deputy Dave Duchak said that Troy firefighters arrived “to find a two-car crash.” Duchak said that a passer-by came upon the crash, “the vehicle was on fire, it was occupied by a female. The passer-by was able to pull her out of the vehicle, probably saving her life.” The driver of that vehicle has been identifed as Mary Y. Kaiser, 64, of Burkettsville.

Troy Police officers assisted the passer-by in removing Kaiser from the burning vehicle, which quickly became fully-involved in flames.

Kaiser was transported by CareFlight to an area hospital.

Supinger, who was driving the second vehicle, a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Crash reconstructionists were working the scene and Duchak said that preliminary findings are that Kaiser’s car was traveling eastbound on Eldean Road and failed to stop at the stop sign and crashed into Supinger’s SUV.

Duchak said that, at this time, there is not indication that Kaiser’s vehicle made any attempt to stop at the stop sign. “There’s no tire marks. There’s no skid marks. There isn’t anything. So we don’t know if it was driver inattention or some other issue.”

The crash remains under investigation. Duchak asks that anyone who may have witnessed the crash, please contact Deputy Ethan Ennist at 937-440-6085 EXT. 7013.
