Deputies investigate Palestine wreck

PALESTINE, Ohio — Law enforcement is investigating an accident that occurred Wednesday night in Palestine.

At 10:31 p.m. on July 27, Darke County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with Liberty Township Fire Department, Tri Village Rescue, Ohio State Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Enforcement and Indiana University Health’s Lifeline responded to an injury accident at the intersection of Main Street and Cross Street in Palestine.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 16-year-old female from Greenville, Ohio, was traveling north on Main Street in a 2013 Ford Escape. Timothy Mong, 68, of Greenville, was traveling east on Cross Street in a 2011 Volvo semi truck with a trailer.

The juvenile pulled into the path of the eastbound semi. The semi struck the northbound vehicle causing injury to the juvenile driver. The juvenile driver was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by Lifeline. The driver of the semi was not injured. The juvenile remains hospitalized at Miami Valley Hospital where she is listed in Critical Condition.

The crash remains under investigation.
